Hi!  I live in Eldersburg, Maryland, USA, a small sub-suburban community west of Baltimore.

I'm an organic chemist and industrial hygienist employed by Science Applications International Corporation (SAIC), a large employee-owned consulting firm specializing in information technology, environmental science and engineering, security, national defense, and other high-tech services.

For fun I enjoy:
 

Birding - the sport of observing birds in their natural habitats: their plumage, behavior, calls, and songs;  the sport is in identifying as many different species as possible in a set period of time in a specific geographic area.  I prefer to record my sightings in Maryland and other states according to the bio-region rather than county - for instance, Coastal Plain, Piedmont, Ridge and Valley, Appalachian Plateau.  During the breeding season especially, the avifauna tend to correlate with these regions.  I am also very interested in avian taxonomy, the familial relationships of birds.

Collecting Baseball Cards of Stars and Superstars - I am a diehard Baltimore Orioles fan. Total Baseball is my favorite baseball statistics source - I collect the cards of players with the best career stats. 

Dogs - I have a Pekingese dog named Simon.  He is very smart and most communicative, but he also has a lot of attitude.  Nursing Simon through a ruptured disk, with paralysis of hindquarters, was wild.  After a month, he could hop like a rabbit, but could not walk with his hind legs; after 8 months of recovery, he now runs, walks, and climbs stairs again!
